John F. M. Thuermer, 89, went to be with the Lord on June 12, 2010. John was born February 3, 1921, in Chicago, IL, to Charles Herman Thuermer and Tena Belle.
John graduated from Ripon College and served in the Army in World War II. John was a member of Company K, 386 Infantry Regiment, 97th Division. Wounded in action, John shared with pride his purple heart in memory of those with whom he served.
After the war, John pursued a career in food technology at the USDA, Topeo, Mrs. Smith's Pies, and KFC. In his 70s John retired from Borden Foods. After his retirement, John was a reading tutor and a crossing guard at Riverside Elementary School in Dublin, OH. He was an Eagle Scout in 1938 and later assistant Scout Master with Troop 299.
He is preceded in death by his son, Charles, brother Angus M., and parents. John is survived by his loving wife, Heather, and their son, John James; sister-in-law, Alice Thuermer and her children, Tina Hall, Kitty Thuermer, and Angus M. Thuermer, Jr.; former wife, Enid Thuermer and her children, Anne (Michael) Dineen, Sally (Andy) Lanczi, and David (Jennifer) Thuermer; his niece; two gradndaughters; and two great-granddaughters; also by his loving Canadian family.
