Theta Sigma Tau fraternity was the result of the organization of the Elms Club eating house members in 1910. After several years of growth, the group was forced to disband temporarily due to the World War. At this time they gave up the residence on Elm St. which had been the home of the "Elms Club" for many years. In the fall of 1919, the group again formed actively. It was housed by the college at this time in the present Sanford House.
