Statements in Memory of Pete

An obituary for Pete from The Milwaukee Journal Sentinal, 5 June 2006
"Long time resident of Wauwatosa. Died peacefully June 2nd at the age of 85 years. Beloved husband for 52 years of the late Sara. Loving father of Nicky (Jeff) Rheingans, Peter Renner and Glenn Renner. Proud Grandfather of Piper and Gunner Renner. Dear brother of Robert (Anita) Renner. Also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Pete was a 1939 graduate of Wauwatosa High School. He graduated from Ripon College and received his masters degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He served his country as an Infantry Captain in World War II and received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart for injuries suffered at the Battle of the Bulge. In 1948, he married Sara Du Pont.
Pete began his business career in 1948. He was hired as a teller at the M & I Bank. He worked his way through the ranks and in 1971 was named Executive Vice President. His major contribution in that position was to analyze and bring independent banks into the M & I Holding Company. He retired in 1987 but stayed on in an advisory capacity for several more years. Pete was active in numerous civic organizations.
He served as President of the Blue Coats Foundation and the YMCA. He was a director of St. Luke's Hospital, the Better Business Bureau, and the Milwaukee Association of Commerce. He was active with the Friends of Channel 10/36 Auction and served on the St. Matthew's Church Council as Treasurer. He was past President of the UW Alumni Club. Pete was an avid fisherman. He has several master angler trophies from his Canadian trips, which began in 1939 and continued until 2004. He spent 70 years collecting stamps and raising tropical fish. In an article written for the Cardinal News in November of 1938 it was said that "If the authorities construct a beacon atop the new tower, we would suggest they name it the "Renner Beacon" for "Pete", is the shining light here at Tosa sort of symbolic and typical of its ideals people consider it a privilege to say "Yea, I know Pete". This shining light continued throughout his life."

An obituary for Pete from the Class Notes section of the Ripon College Magazine, Fall 2006
