Vivien was the custodian of Mapes Hall during the late 70s and throughout the 80s. She was made an honorary in the mid-80s and proudly wore her letters shirt whilst working in Mapes, especially on the West side of the building.

"Vivien was a very sweet woman, perhaps as close to a House Mother as there has been since the days of Sigma Nu or before. She was kind, patient, generous. I recall coming to the lounge on a Sunday after a party and there being doughnuts and coffee on the table in the lounge, along with cleaning supplies: treating us to breakfast and gently suggesting we clean the heck up after ourselves. She did things like this from time to time, as well as often baking cakes to help the graduating seniors celebrate. I wish I had gotten to know her better during my short time in Ripon and was sorry to hear that she had passed away."
